On Tuesday morning, December 18, at 6:15 am The fast of 10 Tevet begins and ends at 5:40 pm the same day.
This “half day fast” is a reminder of the day that Babylon began their siege of Jerusalem. It took three years to finally breach the walls and another two weeks to get to the temple.
The reason for the siege was the ignoring of the sh’mita year and the resulting holding of Hebrew slaves for longer than the six year prescribed limit. Details of the siege can be found in the book of Yeremiyahoo.
A normal fast includes no water or food for the fasting period. There is a guide to fasting on a previous post/article. Do the best that you can.
