Parasha: Bo – come
Torah: Shemot 10:1 – 13:16
Moshe is approaching Paro for the eighth time. He is a bit frustrated with Paro and Moshe’s language is beginning to show the stress.
1 Then Avinu said to Moshe, “Go (come) in to Paro, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these signs of mine among them, 2 and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them, that you may know that I am Avinu.” 3 So Moshe and Aaron went in to Paro and said to him, “Thus says Avinu, Elohei Ivrim, ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me. (Shemot 10:1-3)
I want to parse out this narrative and ask the question:
“How long will you continue to refuse to humble yourself and begin to serve Avinu?”
We sometimes forget that the Scriptures are written for us to read and learn.
Do we “see ourselves” in this passage?
Notice that Paro was asked to “..humble yourself..”
Are we able to “humble ourselves”? Are we willing and able to submit to Avinu’s Will?
Here is what Yeshua teaches:
Take my yoke on you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest to your souls. (Mt 11:29 )
The Apostolic Writings expand on humility:
But he gives more grace. Why he said, Avinu resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. (Jas 4:6 )
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. (Jas 4:10 )
Likewise, you younger, submit yourselves to the elder. Yes, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for Avinu resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. (1Pe 5:5 )
Ok Paro. When are you going to stop “resisting” and begin “serving Avinu?
