Mystery Prophet

Weekly Torah Lesson

Parasha: Shoftim – Judges
Torah: Devarim 16:18 – 21:9

Devarim 17:15 Avinu Elohekah will raise up to you a Prophet from the middle of you, of your brothers, like to me; to him you shall listen; 16 According to all that you desired of Avinu Elohekah in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of Avinu my Elohim, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. 17 And Avinu said to me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. 18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brothers, like to you, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him. 19 And it shall come to pass, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

** Israel has been visited by many prophets since Moshe wrote these words. Most of them weren’t received very well and met an untimely death at the hands of their brothers.

** Yeshua prophecied many things during His ministry. Unlike those who came before Him, His “self prophecized” death is the greatest gift that mankind ever received.

*** “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Avinu, and the Word was Avinu. 2 The same was in the beginning with Avinu. 3 All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and that life was the Light of men.” (Joh 1:1-4)

*** “34 While he thus spoke, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. 35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.” (Lu 9:34-35)

“45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one that accuses you, even Moshe, in whom you trust. 46 For had you believed Moshe, you would have believed Me, for he wrote of Me. 47 But if you believe not his writings, how shall you believe My words?”” (Joh 5:45-47 )

“For He whom Avinu has sent speaks the words of Avinu, for Avinu gives not the Spirit by measure to Him.” (Joh 3:34 )

“It is the Spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you, they are spirit, and they are life.” (Joh 6:63 )

“He that is of Avinu hears Avinu’s words; you therefore hear them not, because you are not of Avinu.”” (Joh 8:47 )

“He that rejects Me and receives not My words, has One that judges him; the Word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the Last Day.” (Joh 12:48 )

“Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I speak not of Myself; but the Father that dwells in Me, He does the works.” (Joh 14:10 )

“Yeshua answered and said unto him, “If a man loves Me, he will keep My words; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.” (Joh 14:23 )

“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you.” (Joh 15:7 )

“For I have given to them the Words which You gave Me; and they have received them and have known surely that I came out from You, and they have believed that You did send Me.” (Joh 17:8 )
