The Mystery Of The Seed

November 14, 2021 By R Memmi Leave a Comment

Parasha:  va Yeitzei – and he went out
Torah:  Bereishit 28:10 – 32:3

Some find today’s lesson “questionable.  They find it hard to believe that Avinu can “manipulate” actual physical descendants of Avraham at this present time to be the “elect” of this generation.  I think that the Scriptures speak for themselves.

13  And behold, Avinu stood above it and said, I am Avinu, Elohei Avraham, avotekah and the Elohei Yitzak. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your seed. 14  Your seed shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15  Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you. (Bereishit 28:13-15)

The promise was given to Avraham, repeated to Yitzak and reinforced to Yaakov on his way out of the Promised Land.

Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, (Ro 4:16 )

The “seed” of Avraham was spread into every nation on earth through Avraham’s eight sons.  The Scripture that we just read tells us that Avraham’s seed is also alive in more people than those who are following Judaism.  We all are Avraham’s seed and we all receive the promise by faith in spite of what “religion” we are practicing at the time of our calling.

7  Neither, because they are the seed of Avraham, are they all children: but, In Yitzak shall your seed be called. 8  That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of Avinu: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. (Ro 9:7-8 )

And if you be Meshiach’s, then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Ga 3:29 )

If you are called into “Meshiachs”, then you are physically Avraham’s seed.  You were Avraham’s seed before you were called.

For truly he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. (Heb 2:16 )

Meshiach could have taken on any form that he wanted but because of that promise to Avraham, He lived on earth as Avraham’s seed.

Here is a comprehensive list of all that have been called and those who will be called in the future.  Notice their lineage.

3  Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. 4  And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. 5  Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. 6  Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nephthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. 7  Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. 8  Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand. (Re 7:3-8)
