Parasha: Ha Azinu Give ear
Torah: Devarim 32:1-52
Devarim 32:4 “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A Avinu of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.
** Avinu set the standard for us to follow. When we obey His instructions, we worship Him through emulation. He is Holy – He wants us to be Holy. He is Just – He wants us to be just etc. He doesn’t expect us to be anything that He isn’t. This is how we are being “conformed into the image of His Son”.
** Here is how we reacted to His will for us.
5 They have dealt corruptly with him; they are no longer his children because they are blemished; they are a crooked and twisted generation. 6 Do you thus repay Avinu, you foolish and senseless people? Is not he your father, who created you, who made you and established you?
32:15 “But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked; you grew fat, stout, and sleek; then he forsook Avinu who made him and scoffed at the Rock of his salvation. 16 They stirred him to jealousy with strange demons; with abominations they provoked him to anger. 17 They sacrificed to demon – idols that were no Elohim, to demon-idols they had never known, to new demon-idols that had come recently, whom your fathers had never dreaded. 18 You were unmindful of the Rock that bore you, and you forgot the Avinu who gave you birth. 19 “Avinu saw it and spurned them, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.
** Avinu brought upon us the consequences that we chose through disobedience.
20 And he said, ‘I will hide my face from them; I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness. 21 They have made me jealous with what is no Elohim; they have provoked me to anger with their demon – idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are no people;
** Just retribution – receiving the consequence of something that we did, was what Avinu is currently doing to Israel. Avinu, being faithful to His promise to Avraham, is calling “The Lost Sheep of Israel” into the covenant that He had previously called our brothers into.
*** “21 Yeshua said to her, Woman, believe me, the hour comes, when you shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship you know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.” (Joh 4:21-22)
“5 So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace. 6 But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace. 7 What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect (The Lost Sheep) obtained it, but the rest (of Israel) were hardened,
** Israel failed to obtain the promise of Salvation by faith that was promised to Avraham. The “elect” or “Lost Sheep” (the physical seed of Avraham that had assimilated into idolatry and lost their identity, are now being called into and given the promise while their brothers are dealing with sin through “good works.
8 as it is written, “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, down to this very day.” 9 And David says, “Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them; 10 let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see, and bend their backs forever.”
11 So I ask, did they stumble in order that they might fall? By no means! Rather through their trespass salvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make Israel jealous.” (Ro 11:5-11)
“24 For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree. 25 Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And in this way all Israel will be saved.
** The 144,000 represent the twelve tribes (all Israel). They will become “the Bride of Meshiach”. Those from Israel who have been involved in Judaism will join the elect either through the resurrection of the dead or repentance when Meshiach returns. Meshiach’s promise cannot be broken. As it is written,
“The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish wickedness (lawlessness) from Jacob” (Ro 11:24-26)
*** “And if you be Meshiach’s, then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” (Ga 3:29)
