Parasha: P’kudei “Accountings of”
Torah: Shemot 38:21 – 40:38 (end of Exodus)
** In this final parsha (Torah portion) for the book of Shemot (Exodus), There is a general accounting of the materials that were used in the building of The Tent of Meeting. The names of two men also emerge as master craftsmen who are to lead the building of the structure.
Shemot 38:21 This is the sum of the tabernacle, even of the tabernacle of testimony, as it was counted, according to the commandment of Moshe, for the service of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar, son to Aharon the priest. 22 And Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made all that Avinu commanded Moshe. 23 And with him was Oholiab, son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an engraver, and a cunning workman, and an embroiderer in blue, and in purple, and in scarlet, and fine linen.
The name of Bezalel – in the shadow (protection) of Avinu.
The name of Oholiab – My Father’s tent
The Silent Partner:
“And you shall speak to all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister to me in the priest’s office.” (Ex 28:3 )
“And I have filled him with the spirit of Avinu, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,” (Ex 31:3 )
“And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded you;” (Ex 31:6 )
“And all the women whose heart stirred them up in wisdom spun goats’ hair.” (Ex 35:26 )
“Then worked Bezalel and Oholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whom Avinu put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, according to all that Avinu had commanded.” (Ex 36:1 )
