Parasha: BeReishit – In the beginning
Torah: BeReishit 1:1 – 6:8
** In the first verse of the Torah, Avinu chooses to identify Himself as “Elohim”. The first thing that one notices is that this particular “attribute” is in the plural form. The root of Elohim can mean “to restrict” or “to judge” or to “discipline”.
As the world was being created, it was Elohim who brought order into the millions of “creative processes” taking place at the same time.
Here is how the Scripture reads:
1 In the beginning Elohim created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of Elohim moved on the face of the waters… (BeReishit 1:1-2)
Here are a couple of verses that will help us to understand “Elohim” a little better:
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim. 2 He was in the beginning with Elohim. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. (Joh 1:1-4)
and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in Elohim who created all things through Yeshua HaMeshiach; (Eph 3:9)
without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of Elohim, remains a priest continually. (Heb 7:3)
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Master, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”” (Re 1:8)
1 Elohim, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,” (Heb 1:1-3)
10 And: You, Master, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. 11 They will perish, but You remain; And they will all grow old like a garment; 12 Like a cloak You will fold them up, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail. (Heb 1:10-12)
** Yeshua and Elohim were both a part of the entity that conducted the creation.
I believe that we can safely say that Yeshua is Elohim!
