Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai hid from the Romans in a cave for thirteen years.
When he left the cave and came to a town, he did not say, “Let me enlighten you with the inner light of Torah, the light that has been hidden since the six days of creation.” For he was surely qualified to enlighten.Instead he asked, “What is there in your town that I can fix?”
Whatever knowledge a human being is given in this world, whatever wisdom, enlightenment or inspiration, it is all only and exclusively for one purpose: To assist Him to fix up this world.
Our purpose for being here can be simplified. Most of us aren’t called to do spectacular works. We deal in the mundane details of human life where the common is perceived as extraordinary. When we serve another, we elevate the comman to the Divine.
Here is what Yeshua teaches:
“37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 ‘When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 ‘Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 “And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’” (Mt 25:37-40)
